Next HPO: Towards Organisational Integrity

Alexander Kiehne, Louis Klein & Jan Lachenmayer

This paper argues that High Performance Organisation (HPO) remains a myth and is hard to observe in reality. The concept of HPO is based on the balance of strategy focus and operational excellence. The major challenge for striving towards an ideal HPO is the establishment of a political / cultural framework.

Leadership 21

Florian Popp & Louis Klein

The discourse on leadership and management that existed during the last few years has many merits and considerably contributed to a better understanding of management and leadership roles. However, it considered leadership and management opposed to one another, and missed a crucial third element to successful leadership as a whole: Entrepreneurship.Together, leadership, management, and entrepreneurship form the three crucial elements of Leadership 21, the leadership for the 21st Century.

Next Practice NGO

Next Practice NGO is a project of the SEgroup in cooperation with the Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance. The aim of the project is to support NGOs to prepare themselves for the future. In 2008/2009 we interviewed 31 leaders of NGOs on how they are developing their organisational capacity. We have summarised the results in a study. On a workshop in June 2009 we discussed and deepened the results of the study with some of the study participants. We are planning a conference in autumn 2010 to continue fostering the discourse on the future of the organisation of NGOs.
