With Leadership 21, SEgroup wants to raise the awareness of organisations and leaders alike for the different roles and demands on leaders in today's exceedingly complex world.
The hitherto existing discourses on leadership and management considerably contributed to a better understanding of the respective roles, yet considered leadership and management as opposed to one another. Furthermore, it missed a crucial third element to successful leadership as a whole: entrepreneurship.
Together, leadership, management, and entrepreneurship form the crucial three elements of Leadership 21:
- Leadership fulfils the normative or visionary and sense-making function, creating the greater vision and purpose for the organisation
- Management fulfils the operative or operational function, handling the daily work and business administration of the organisation
- Entrepreneurship fulfils the strategic or explorative function, preparing the organisation for continuous success and the fullest use of its potential
Leadership 21 advocates balancing these three functions consistently, allowing for substantial benefits for both individual leaders and the organisation as a whole.
